Today, think about what is means to ‘belong’. What it means, how we feel about it, and what we lose if we do not have it.
Use your sixty seconds today to think about the things you ‘belong’ to: clubs, teams, family, and so on.
Now think about how you belong: through birth, examination, payment? What other mechanisms allow us to belong?
Is it possible to force belonging onto someone? Most likely, yes: we use words to put people into boxes. ‘Troublemaker’, ‘Change Agent’, ‘Leader’.
Now think about your own role as a Social Leader: is it to enable people to belong, to judge them worthy of belonging, or to be a Gatekeeper or Guide?
Thank you for being part of this Community: a global group of Explorers, putting Social Leadership into practice.
Social Leadership is form of leadership at the intersection of systems: between the formal and social, between power given to us by the Organisation, and that which we earn within our Communities.
