Some stories are fluid, whilst others are fixed. And some that we think are fixed, turn out to be more fluid than we may imagine.
Take ‘career’ - thirty years ago the ‘story’ of career was most likely to be about progression within one industry or organisation. Today, it’s not. Career may be ‘portfolio’, ‘second’, or ‘on a break’. The established narrative of what it means to have a career has shifted.
Many notions shift over time: coffee shops have become embedded into the story of remote work, and remote work itself has become embedded into a narrative around ‘new normals’, all of which indicates that there was an old story of ‘normal’ that we are leaving behind.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider which stories you are part of that are fixed and seemingly permanent, and any which are fluid. Then consider if your view of a particular story has changed over time.
