Day #140

Switching Perspectives

I remember listening to the radio when i was growing up, carefully choosing which shows to listen to regularly, and which i would sample and then drop. I was spoilt for choice: different radio stations curating different content, from music, to documentaries, and even bedtime stories.

When my brother started working in Radio, i remember talking to him about it, and he has a different perspective: for him, creating the brand identities and stations, he saw that building audience was about attractiveness to advertisers. Sure: we both loved the content, but we had different views around purpose.

For me, the end point was listening, and for him, the end point was audience size.

Describing the same system, we held different perspectives.

Use your sixty seconds to ask yourself about your own perspective on your own system.

Are you aware of the other views? And what attracted you to your own?

This is relevant today, as many Organisations seek social purpose, and yet also operate within marketplaces that demand financial return. Can both truths be equally true?
