Day #141

Moral Compass

What is a moral compass? How do we calibrate our decisions for tricky questions?

Most people describe how they have a feeling, a sense, of what is right and wrong, but equally most of us recognise that this is not a universal truth. Two different people may hold two different views of ‘right’.

Use your sixty seconds today to ask yourself how you learned what is right, or wrong - and to what extent this is a local or cultural phenomena, or an absolute one.

Your thinking may be informed by your sense of belief: for some people, the judgement of right and wrong is externally moderated within a religion or belief system. For others, judgement is held in their communities, or their own heads.

There may be no universal truth, but there may still be value in being aware of what has shaped, and informs, the direction that our moral compass points towards.
