Day #160

Trust

I think this week we will spend some time exploring ‘Trust’, as it seems to be a recurrent topic on my timeline at the moment!

Use your sixty seconds to answer the question ‘What does trust mean to you?’

In the research for the ‘Landscape of Trust’ we saw that people all around the world can answer that questions using confident language, but that they also tend to offer a range of focus in their description.

For some people, trust is described like ‘love’, in that it just blossoms between them.

For others, it’s described as ‘belief’, in that i met you, and just ‘felt’ that i could trust you, so i projected that belief onto you.

Some people describe trust in reasonably transactional and reciprocal terms, so you have to build it slowly, whilst others say that they either hold it easily, with anyone (or too many people), whilst others sadly feel they barely ever feel it at all.

Some people say that it has a magic that can only be felt ‘face to face’, but other people have found trust whilst hiding behind avatars online.

Trust is clearly a social glue, but what it glues, and how, is reasonably complex.

This week i’m drawing upon the Landscape of Trust research: you can download the free eBook of that work here, based on ‘72 questions about trust’.
