Day #174

Coping or Thriving

Our bodies are shaped by the work that we do: they adapt to the stresses and repeated pressure that acts upon them.

I remember when i started to play guitar, my fingertips rubbed sore and then blistered, before eventually developing hard pads on the ends. With that change, that adaptation, the pain subsided, and my ability increased.

These days, if i leave the guitar for months, the pads soften, but do not go altogether.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider how you have adapted to the system: and whether that adaptation is about performance, or coping, or both?

Sometimes our adaptation is to avoid injury or pain, and sometimes to improve performance. But if all we are doing is avoiding pain, we may be coping, not thriving.
