Use your sixty seconds today to think about the system that you work within: now consider a word that describes it.
I wonder what that word was? ‘Happy’, ‘busy’, ‘chaotic’, ‘friendly’, ‘purposeful’, ‘desperate’, ‘anonymous’, ‘lost’, ‘welcoming’, ‘challenging’? Or something altogether more interesting?
It’s pretty hard to describe anything in one word: how do you feel? I feel great! Although my knee still twinges from where i banged it. And i’m pretty depressed about aspects of politics. But i still feel great.
What about three words?
Tricky: that lets me off the hook: i feel ‘great’, ‘tired’, but ‘excited’! (My knee still hurts).
We easily become obsessed with easy answers, but perhaps some stories require a longer telling?
As a leader, is the brevity of your input always important, or should you invest more deeply, to hear the full story?
