Day #205

Story Told

On Friday i shared a last minute post on LinkedIn, with no real care of thought put into it, and of course it had a huge response. I rolled my eyes a bit: often i find i write something that i feel is really powerful, only for just a handful of people to read it. At others, i story i feel is almost trivial just catches fire.

One reason for this is that story told is not story received: we often invest something of ourselves into stories - and hence sometimes a story with a lot of space for us to connect with can fly far more easily that one that is fully formed.

Use your sixty seconds today as a simple reflection: can you think of a time when you found it really hard to get a story out - an idea that was in your head but you could not share.

The landscape of stories we inhabit is not a logical space: and the story we tell is not the story that others always hear. That is both the richness and challenge.

I think we will spend more time this week exploring stories.
