Day #213

Identity

Was your identity given to you, or did you build it yourself? Is it the same as anyone else’s, or absolutely unique to you? Or some kind of mixture: some parts pre-built and adopted, with other threads that you have woven yourself?

I’m starting a small prototype research project into ‘identity’ this week, and it’s got me thinking!

Use your sixty seconds today to consider this question: would effective teams share some elements of identity, or could they thrive if everyone was entirely different?

Remember: this may not be a conversation about diversity and acceptance - it’s about something internal - our sense of identity.

Of course, this conversation runs in parallel to something we have considered before: what does it mean to belong - and what do you gain if you belong, or lose if you do not. Identity may tie into belonging in various ways.

This is early stage work and hence early stage thinking, but remember to use your sixty seconds to have new thoughts, not just to revisit the comfortable ones that you already know.
