Day 217

Technology

When i originally developed the Social Leadership framework back in 2014, i presented it as a framework with three sections: narrative, engagement, and technology.

‘Narrative’ was about curation of the self, storytelling, and sharing. ‘Engagement’ explored the contexts in which this happened: our communities, reputation, and social authority. And ‘Technology’ considered where it took us: co-creation, social capital and collaboration.

Today i tend not to use this particular framework that often: it was a starting position for me, and i think my understanding has evolved. But ‘Technology’ was always a difficult element: in many ways i was tempted not to use the word at all - in work around ‘social’ leadership i wanted to avoid any conversation about social media and technology alone.

Let’s explore this today: use your sixty seconds to consider your relationship with technology.

Does it enable you, inhibit you, or both? Does it let you do what you already did, but faster or better, or does it enable you to do entirely new things?

And think about connection: does it streamline your connections, or enable new ones, or something else.

Lot’s of people will tell you what you should think about technology, but it’s not necessarily a clear picture.
