Day #223

Other Hands

This is my kitchen table. Or rather it will be, when i finish it. The slab of English Oak weighs around 150 kg, well beyond what i can manoeuvre by myself, so as i sand the surfaces, measure up for the legs, and play with the exact dimensions, at every stage i need other sets of hands to help me move it.

Some parts of this build take a lot of time: it takes me around four hours to sand one side with each grade of sandpaper. And each side takes multiple passes. But this work i can do alone.

To flip the table takes two minutes, but only when two people help me - so that takes days of planning and sometimes mugs of tea.

So the whole thing has taken months, and is not done yet.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider the ‘alone’ parts of your leadership, and the parts when you need helping hands. And how do you coordinate and thank people for that input?
