Today is an Action Day. It’s all about listening. From time to time we need to ‘walk the boundaries’ of the system, and to hear or reconnect with diverse voices.
Social Leadership is a permission based authority, a community moderated power. And the more connected we are, the stronger we are.
Not simply connected though: interconnected, between spaces, between groups, within our familiar tribes, and more broadly into spaces where find strangers and new ideas. Places where we may not fully feel that we ‘belong’, but where we may find new stories.
So today we will walk out into the system: find someone you know, but maybe not all that well, and try to get to know each other a little better by creating some space.
It’s fine to be explicit, that you are trying to hear new perspectives and voices. This is not ‘wasting’ time: it’s an investment of it.
Some questions you could ask would include:
What do you like about our culture?
How long did it take you to feel that you belonged here?
What help can i give you?
Who can i connect you to?
What should we leave behind?
Or make up your own question: the key thing here is connection.
You will recognise that last one: we often ask it. We cannot carry everything forward, so it’s useful to understand the range of things that we could leave behind.
