Day #267 - Revolution

Rebalancing Systems

Let’s have a week of revolution: what can be picked up and carried forwards, and what can we leave behind. And, perhaps, what needs to be broken to let us build the new?

The context of the Social Age speaks to the rebalancing of systems: formal and social systems of power, and permeability versus ownership (of both people and things, through contract and infrastructure). It’s most likely that the future Organisation, a Socially Dynamic one, will be both smaller, more interconnected, and permeable to expertise, than the legacy ones. But sometimes the existing structure resists that which it does not fully understand.

Use your sixty seconds today to start with a thought: in your Organisation, what used to be formal and owned, but will now be social and accessed.

It could be a type of knowledge or capability, a community, a process. It could be innovation, or a feature of change itself. It could be something simple, like an asset. Maybe your Organisation used to have more secretaries or assistants, but now uses Calendly and Virtual Assistants? Maybe it used to own printing presses but now works in partnership. Maybe it used to contract people to do jobs, but now seeks to access networks to find capability.

It could be something so obvious that it surprises you to think about it in this way - the trick to spotting it will be to recognise that it’s something that used to be impossible but is now everywhere.
