Day #278 - Living Values

Through Conversation

When we talk about ‘values’ within Organisations, the conversation can be a bit abstract: words on a page that we pay homage to, reprint, and repeat. But ‘values’ are most important as they are lived.

One could argue that an Organisation where everyone had their own words, but where they used those words in conversation every day, and demonstrated values through behaviour every day, would be far stronger than one which just published a single common story.

Conformity and compliance is less valuable than reflective practice and authentic action. But what does this look like?

Use your sixty seconds today to consider how you can bring your most important values into a single conversation.

For example: if your value lies in authenticity, then how can you bring that into one conversation? Does it mean sharing a fear or a reason? Asking for feedback or challenge? Does it mean sharing more of your own story, or listening to more of others?

Of course, tackling ‘values’ is a crazy thing to do as part of this project, where we consider just sixty seconds a day - but if we are unable to ‘live’ our values in these smallest of actions, then will we ever live them at all?
