Social Leadership is not simply a reflective practice, but an active one. Today is an Action Day.
We are effective within the arms of our Communities: some formal and visible, many social or hidden. We tend to understand our own landscape of communities quite well, but what about the landscapes that other people inhabit?
Let’s find out: today we will ask someone else a question.
Maybe you can tag this onto the end of a Teams or Zoom meeting, or if you are back in the office, it’s a kitchen conversation.
Tell the person you ask that you are exploring your own Social Leadership: if you feel daft or embarrassed to do so, ask yourself why? If we do not reach out, ask, learn, share, then it’s hard to change anything.
Here are some questions you can choose to ask:
What is your most valuable community (and why)
Have you ever left a community (and why)
Are you ‘noisy’ in every community, or do you prefer just to listen in some? (You could ask yourself this one too)
So today, use your sixty seconds for a conversation with someone else, and as you listen to their answers, consider how they differ from your own, and also how they react to think about the question.
Is the answer obvious, or have you created a space for reflection, which may in itself be the act of a leader.
