Day 430: Shadows of Fairness

Actions and Impacts

Fairness is part of our everyday language: when we ask people to write about it they use language with high confidence and certainty. But ‘fairness’ is not an absolute measure.

By being ‘fair’ in one dimension, we may neglect a different one. Our confidence in our actions can blind us to the impacts, especially when that impact falls behind us, in our shadow.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider how your actions to be ‘fair’ in one location, may unintentionally cast a shadow elsewhere.

Not because you want them to, but because we cannot be endlessly fair, and every action has impacts in both the light and the shadow.

To be a Social Leader is to understand this interconnection. Not to be ‘perfect’, but to understand our inherent imperfection and to be engaged with it.
