I know something that you don’t. And you know something unknown to me.
The thing is, neither of us are likely to know what these things are, or find the opportunity to share from what we know.
The challenge is not lack of knowledge, but location of it, and access to it.
I took my garage key to have a copy made today: the lock is old, reused from something ancient, and the young guy in the shop could not get it right. The older supervisor clearly knew what the issue was, but held back from offering that knowledge. He waited to be asked, once the first person had exhausted their techniques, and workarounds.
Sometimes it’s best to wait. And sometimes it’s right to offer.
Use your sixty seconds today to think about how this works in practice: how often do you ask for help, how often is it offered?
And how would you know who to ask?
