As we cycled into school today, there was a tent pitched in the bushes behind the promenade. River was fascinated by this, as he told me that people were not allowed to camp there, and it turned into a conversation about homelessness.
He said it must be scary to lose your home, and that it must make people sad, especially if they had no toys with them. He said that he hoped we never lost our house.
Then he suggested the solution: that maybe we could build more houses and flats. As we cycled past the college, which is covered in a huge scaffolding tent, he suggested that maybe what they were doing under the tent was adding flats on top of the college, for homeless people to sleep in.
Children are of course naive, but that naivety is itself a useful lens.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider what you cannot see because of what you already know.
I am writing all this week, working on the doctorate, so I will take a break from Social Leadership Daily, as well as my writing on the Blog and Captains Log. I’ll even try to hide from my emails.
I hope you have a great week!
