This week I’m in London for a few days, running an immersive event that is both exciting and a bit daunting, as my role is to guide the group and ensure nobody gets lost, as well as ensuring we ride the waves of energy.
The choreography of energy is an important part of learning design: if you push people into ‘survival’ mode, they respond by surviving, not learning. Having the confidence to lower the pace, and create a scaffolding of connection and sense making can be extremely valuable.
It’s the same in our leadership: constantly pushing simply means we are all exhausted. This can manifest as a sense of endless busyness, and a shift to snap decision making, with no opportunities for review.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider the choreography of your leadership. How do you increase the pace, and how do you lower it?
It took me many years to learn how to use silence and space in learning design and leadership work. To recognise that silence is not hesitation, nor weakness. It can be a gift.
