I’ve been writing a retrospective of some of my earlier books, and one thing shows up across the series. The idea of change. And the comfort of change.
Social Leadership operate at the intersection of systems: beyond the formal, beyond system, but connected to it. This is a purposeful practice, but one that draws upon different mechanisms of effect. But it is certainly about leadership through change.
Instead of viewing change simply as ‘before’ and ‘after’, consider how you reconcile what has happened. How, when, and whether, you pause for breath.
Modern Organisations relish in the myth that ‘we live in times of constant change’, but we may wish to take a more nuanced view. In the Organisation as Ecosystem, we move, we breathe. Creating in, and out. And there is a short pause between the two.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider when, where, and how, you pause.
It may be as simple as the sixty seconds you spend in this space. Or Mayne it is a pause to celebrate something done well, with a simple email of gratitude, or to recognise and release something that went badly. Not to avoid learning from it, but to learn, and move forward.
The pause does not need to be long, but should be held with intention.
