Day #763 - Disturbance and Performance

Exploring the ‘everyday’

I’m delivering the new Strategic AI workshop today, and it’s certainly going to keep me on edge all day. I do not have a clear narrative, my vocabulary is incomplete, and I’m carrying myself to the edges of my knowledge.

I like days like this: not performance days, but collaborative ones. A chance to be in a room with a diverse group of people, all of whom will probably agree with me on some things, and differ on others.

If we get it right, we will create space between us, to listen, contribute, evolve. And if we get it wrong, we will all be terribly polite, and learn very little.

Learning is an act of disturbance, and vulnerability. The community within which we learn holds the edges of that space, because it holds the most direct mechanism of consequence.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider where you find a space for disturbance and vulnerability, but held by a community. And when you provide this space for others.

This is not the ‘everyday’, but neither should it be as rare as a birthday. If we truly live in times of constant change, then constant learning may be an advantage. And without due care and attention, we may lack the communities and contexts within which to do this.
