Day #780 - Spaces
And how we feel about them
I find that different technology platforms often feel like different parts of a landscape, some more familiar than others.
For me, Facebook is personal: I just stay connected to old friends, and don’t talk about work at all, whilst LinkedIn is the opposite. I differentiate them. The Blog is a familiar territory, because although it has a large following, I feel it is a landscape that I own and inhabit.
Substack, this space, feels different though. I think because at the start most of the people who found this community came through my established channels, but more recently most of you who end up here stumbled here through shared connections, or by the random acts of recommendation engines.
To me, this space feels less formal, quite highly connected and connective, and still somewhat secretive and hidden away. Just subjective thoughts I know, but how we feel about ‘spaces’ changes how we act within them.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider the spaces you inhabit: for work, play, to learn, explore, and so on.
Which feel established, which are changing, who controls them, and how did you find them?
Inhabiting diverse ecosystems of technology is a defining feature of the Social Age, but it’s not just about where we stand. It’s about the social context of how we work
.
