Day #781 - Routine
The sun and the sea
Back to school today, so River and I were back on the bike. And predictably the weather has taken a decidedly autumnal turn, so it was raining.
We don’t mind: it was a chance to see the sea rough and churning, to wave to our beach friends, to see the goats on the cliff, and remind ourselves of the routine. This is our third year of school, and third year of cycling in together, and I love that bit of time we share, talking about our ideas for adventures, or sometimes with River asking me random questions like ‘how do clouds work’.
Routine is both comforting, and also a trap. Some routines become habits, hard to shift, even when their primary use has long faded.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider your routine: and whether you ever document and review it.
It’s easy to become trapped in old patterns of activity, which can reinforce or hold old patterns of thought.
Thanks for being part of this community: a community in dialogue with our practice. Welcome to David, Dan, Adam, Courteney, Zakhil, Juan, Katie, Nina, Colleen, Katherine, Elaine, and everyone else who has joined us over the summer. You are very welcome in this space.
