Day #789 - Milestones
Starting and stopping
The solstice marked the end of summer, and I can feel the chill in the mornings. As we cycled in this week, the light was more watery, and it’s dark when we get up. River declared that autumn is his favourite season, although I suspect partly because he is already making his Christmas list.
For me, autumn is often associated with publishing, as it forms an implicit reminder to get myself in gear and complete writing, to be published before the end of the year. It’s no coincidence that Engines of Engagement was published on the last day of 2023…
The idea of transitions is important: milestones, markers, gateways, structured achievements. We can find these helpful ourselves, in our practice, but also useful to give to others.
This year I will published the Planetary Philosophy, complete the PhD, and celebrate ten years of Sea Salt Learning. All milestones in their own way. Other milestones include Meadow’s fourth birthday this month, and River starting in Year 2 at school.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider your milestones this year: running a marathon, a special birthday, qualification, award, anniversary, or something else.
And consider what space this gives you: to pick up something new, or leave behind something old and no longer helpful.
