I’m just 8 days into this series, which is a little early to hit a bump in the road, but this week i’ve contracted Covid, along with my two year old son, so we are isolating together and looking after each other! I will try to maintain momentum, but don’t be surprised is posts are a little late or erratic.
Which is a good diversion into kindness, a topic i’ve been researching as part of my newer work on Quiet Leadership.
In the research, when asked for free text answers, people typically describe kindness in three contexts: how they are kind to others, how they experience kindness, and how you must be kind to yourself.
In the reflective sessions i have been hosting alongside the research, we also explore how we tend to be kinder to those people we already know (as opposed to strangers) and perhaps those people we need.
Which is no surprise: kindness is a social currency, bonding our trusted structures tightly together, but perhaps rarely reaching beyond those tribes, or doing so unequally.
Use your 60 seconds today to consider this: who are you most often kind to? Who is most often kind to you?
And are you kind enough to yourself?
By claiming my permission to be erratic in this work, i am being kind to myself. Ensure that you do the same for yourself when you need it.
