Day #801 - Ecosystems
Responsibility and Balance
We sit within the ecosystem: embraced, connected, and vulnerable. The system can only thrive through dynamic balance: not stasis, where nothing changes, but rather through feedback loops and adaptation. One thing moves, and another compensates. Balance is found in motion, not stillness.
It is Autumn, or Fall: the leaf falls from the tree. The greens turned to vibrant oranges, and now to browns as the structure breaks apart. What was grown is deconstructed, claimed back into the soil.
In the Quiet Leadership work we view this not as an act of death, and decay, but renewal, because the forest grows from the floor: the soil births the leaf, the leaf returns to the soil.
The system does not require intention, not least because it consists of such a broad range of features, from the inanimate landscape to the sentient creature that live upon and within it.
But we are different: we are intelligent, creative, imaginative: we can conceive of future states, and take action to hasten or delay their arrival. We are not unique in our ability to leave physical traces upon the landscape, but we are unique in our ability to utterly destabilise it.
Today, consider responsibility, and balance.
This is day 801 of our community: sixty seconds a day, in dialogue with our practice. This space continues to evolve. In this chapter, we are exploring the ecosystem approach
