Day #811 - Sharing
And the risks
I spent Friday at the LN Connect conference in London, which was a lovely way to end the week. As I said to the group, if I have a community that feels like home, it’s that practitioner community. Some people I’ve know for many years, but also lots of new faces.
I was very touched that a couple of people bought their copies of the Social Leadership Handbook from 2017 for me to sign - I know it’s ridiculous, but it means a lot to me when people value the books that we share. Books are a really important part of my life, and gifting them is important too. I took eighty assorted books to the event to share in the book exchange, and was pleased to bring none of them home again!
Sharing in Social Leadership is one of the ways that we weave strength into our Social Context, but not simply the sharing of books.
Sharing our pride, anxiety, energy, or fears, these things can all help to bring us together. And all of them change the context for other people: sharing your uncertainty can create space for others to share theirs. Sharing your self doubt can do the same. But with a risk of course: when we share something from within, we risk being ridiculed or ‘thought less’ of. So every time we step forward as Social Leaders, it’s an act of bravery to truly be open to share into a community. Even one we know well.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider what you share, and with whom. And specifically, how you decide.
I hope you had a great week last week - I needed a few days away from this writing, as I was feeling overwhelmed with some overdue work.
