Day #820 - Expiring Soon
Sell By Dates and Good Ideas
Things can fall out of time: ideas, systems, structures, processes, capability. It’s not just egg sandwiches that should carry a sell by date.
But whilst it’s easy to clear the shelves of some things, others come wrapped in layers of context, which can make them sticky, or even hide them out of plain sight.
Ideas can be owned, they can accrete power, and to change, or relinquish an idea can throw us into uncertainty and doubt, creating discomfort, risk, or imposing ambiguity. Not least because having to relinquish our grip on one rope does not guarantee that another is in place, ready for us to grab hold of.
Sometimes we just have to leap.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider this within your own leadership. How would you know when to let go of something?
Is it your personal brilliance and insight - is it new knowledge, or a trusted friend - a news item, or a bad experience - a profit motive, or desperation? Or something else?
Holding things lightly can be tricky, especially when those very things form a foundation, upon which we have built high towers
.
