Gratitude

Social Leadership Daily - Day #878

I graduated from my doctorate today, so it’s a day for gratitude. Gratitude to my supervisor, Nico, and my examiners, to my fellow travellers in our WhatsApp cohort, to my family, parents, and Crew Mates.

Gratitude is one of our Social Currencies, but when we spend it, there should always be context. What we are grateful for, and why. So I’m grateful for supervision that gave me space, for examiners who took the time to really know the work, for my Crew Mates who covered for me and gave me space, and for my parents for guiding me without ever seeming to do so at all.

And my cohort: shared experience, to travel together, that’s valuable because when someone is down, someone else may be up. A learning cohort is not meant to be a tidy affair.

Gratitude is fragile: easily performative, and yet incredibly valued when held properly.

So I’m grateful to this community - our community - in dialogue with our practice. This is not a space of perfect work. It’s a learning space. We travel together.
