Day #681 - Reflective Practice

Building Strength in Social Context

The weekend saw a flurry of new people joining this community. We are a global community in dialogue with our practice, as Social Leaders, and you are all very welcome in this space.

Our work here is about leadership in the very smallest of actions, for just sixty seconds a day. But every day. It’s about me, and you, and how act to each other. And how we think about those actions.

Social Leadership is a reflective practice: you are not given this type of leadership in your employment contract, but rather earn it through your actions, within your community, over time.

But it is powerful, because Social Leadership trades in social currencies, like trust, pride, belonging, kindness, and reputation.

We act where action is needed: sometimes this may be as part of the work we do on projects, or in our day to day work, whilst at others, it’s around the edges of systems. Building strength into the social context of the Organisation.

Our success is not judged by the award of a badge, a promotion, or a grade. Because there is no finish line: reflective practice is about making small changes each and every day, in what we think, believe, and do. And building the capability to do so from ever broader perspectives: acting not simply for ourselves, but as part of an ecosystem.

Use your sixty second today to consider your own leadership in this way: what does the landscape look like around you, right now.
