Day #504 - Washed Away

Why ideas get trapped

We cycle along the seafront most mornings. The storms wash sand onto the path, making it almost impassable, then the rain washes it back off again. The wind and the rain - the sand coming and going.

It reminds me of how ideas come and go: with a flurry of excitement, then the long erosion of apathy.

Some systems, like tidal ones, are highly dynamic. Others, like hierarchy or social norms, can be remarkably resistant to change.

Finding new ideas is not that hard: changing the systems that they blow through can be impossible.

Use your sixty seconds today to think ‘what traps the sand’. Where does the constraint lie.

And perhaps to ask if you, yourself, are sometimes part of that constraint?

We are all tied into what we know, and our spaces of comfort.

Our curiosity, our ability to learn, is a tide that can wash space clean. If we are willing to move with it.
