Day #539 - The Anti Library

Confidence is not Truth
Transcript

No transcript...

I shared my new work this morning, here in Sweden: work on disorientation and getting lost in learning. I think it went down well, but maybe i was just confident with it. And of course we should not mistake confidence for truth.

As i flew over here i stopped in the airport bookshop: lots of confidence there. Books that tell us how to lead, how to win. I really dislike this stuff, which often reduces the complex to conveniently digestible truths, but in doing so make them abstract. Things that feel they should be true. So strongly that we make them so.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider your anti-library. Where are the books never written, stuck in peoples heads. Where do you turn?

Just because something is published, physical, vaunted and placed on the shelf, does not make it true. Try to pollute your own certainty with opportunities for divergence and difference. If you don’t feel challenged, frustrated, sometimes wrong, you may be in the wrong library.
