I visited a factory yesterday. I was greeted by a seventy year old who had worked there his whole career. He had finally retired, before returning in the pandemic to help out. As he guided me through the building, we had to say ‘hello’ to every single person. Everyone knew him. He was woven into the fabric.

Through our conversations, conflicts, projects and personality, we weave ourselves into the Social Context of our work. And we lead within it too. For him it was with kindness and an authenticity. He had pretty much done every job over the years.

Is it a quick stitch or a long tapestry?

Many of these questions have no answer: they are simply a foundation for our reflection.

I hope you’ve had a great week.
