I’m fortunate enough to live by the sea, and each morning we cycle to school along the promenade. Yesterday we were building sandcastles and paddling, playing with friends and enjoying a picnic. Today, the beach is swept clean.
Not simply by the tide: the council here quite literally sweep the beach overnight. They drag a rake through it to catch discarded glass or litter, and sweep it flat. It’s a rather odd and artificial thing, to see the sand so perfectly flat, the footprints of children swept away.
Each day afresh. But we have our memories.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider this: what is your role as a leader?
Do you sweep the sand clear each night: do you create a pristine space. Or do you carry the stories forwards? Is your role one of caretaker, or storyteller, or something else?
I hope that you have had a good weekend: some of you are new to this community - a community in dialogue with it’s practice. You are very welcome in this space. Leadership in the smallest of actions, for sixty seconds, every day.
