In my current writing on Social Leadership, i am exploring a holistic perspective, which views ‘formal’ leadership as within the visible and structural organisation, and Social Leadership wrapping around this.
There is a relationship between two: formal leadership contextualises the social, and social infuses the formal.
The reason why Social Leadership is so relevant right now is that much of what our Organisations seek - to be resilient, adaptive, agile and able to change - depends upon the social structure, and hence is facilitated by Social Leadership.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider the simple question, ‘where do you lead’.
I’m sure we will all find answers to this, and most likely they will be broad, as context dictates. But consider how obvious it is in the moment.
My current work considers that we need a dynamic tension between the two systems - between the formal and social, and hence a capability of leaders is to navigate both systems, and in particular, the intersection between them.
