Day #621 - Your Story

The Long and Short versions

I had so many good conversations over the last couple of days, catching up with old friends, and meeting new people. After conversations about the conference sessions, and sometimes about our families, invariably I was asked “and what are you working on at the moment?”

I gave two quite different answers to that question: sometimes a detailed one, and sometimes a convenient truth.

The convenient answer was easy to give and easy to understand, built around my certainty, around simple phrases, and easy to digest.

The detailed one was a ramble through ideas, often halting and conflicted, probably making little sense to some of my polite but bemused audiences, and less sense to me.

One was a story ready to be told, and the other is an active space of sense making.

Use your sixty seconds today to consider this: what are you working on at the moment, and does it have a simple, and a detailed version? And if so, where do you have the space to explore it? Where is your community that allows you to ramble?

I hope that you’ve had a great week. A special welcome to those of you joining this community for the first time this week. If you enjoy this work, please consider sharing it. And have a great weekend!
