Quite suddenly here, the leaves are starting to turn. There is a rich colour in the canopy as the sun turns lower and the air crisps. Autumn, or the Fall, is a point of transition, but as much as part of growth as the Spring.
The leaves fall from the trees to nourish the forest floor. I was reminded of this in the Quiet Leadership work this morning, talking to the group about how the forest, which stretches above us in majesty, grows from the mud on the forest floor. We are all connected, interdependent. If the soil is impoverished, the canopy cannot form.
Autumn is also a good time to consider what we let fall from our own branches. An idea, belief, or limitation that no longer serves us. It may seem strange to think of growth in terms of loss, but we cannot carry an endless weight. Growth is also about renewal.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider this: what can you leave behind.
This is a reflection on an aspect of our own renewal. A recognition that growth requires pause and transition. Is not simply additive.
