I was taking about this Community yesterday, and about all the people I have met through it (and the stories that you all share). The person I was talking to had asked me “how do you make people do the activity every day”, but of course that is not what we do here at all. This is a reflective space, and an elective community. Nobody is here because they were told to be here, and people are ‘here’ in many different ways.
Some people tell me that they diligently spend their sixty seconds every day reflecting on the question that I give them. Others say they may it here a few times a week. Someone I spoke to sad that they come here every day, but never to answer the question. For them it’s a secret moment of silence in their busy day: this community acts as an excuse, a shelter, and perhaps a space to belong. To be hidden away. And all of these things are valid.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider why you are here. And perhaps to consider whether your deliberate intention to be ‘here’ gives you any sense of control or agency.
I hope you’ve had a great week. Welcome to Megan, Camille, and the others who join us here for the first time this week: you are very welcome in this community.
