Yesterday I hosted a group of people today, coming together to talk about ideas. We were discussing the idea of a ‘safe harbour for independent thinkers’, part of my broader work with Sea Salt Learning.
The act of welcoming people is part of our culture: I baked bread so we could eat together, and there was some frantic tidying…
Creating the space - to host - to convene - is a conscious and deliberate act. I wanted to ensure that the space acted as a backdrop and foundation for the conversations, not an inhibitor. So the act of welcoming counts.
This is what we saw in the Landscape of Communities research: that the choreography of welcome and engagement was deemed the most important feature of a successful community.
Use your sixty seconds today to consider how you convene - how you bring people together.
It’s a big question, but see what springs to the front of your mind.
I hope you’re having a great week so far!
Welcome to Karlie, Alex and Laura, who join us in this community this week. We are a community in dialogue with our practice as Social Leaders, and you are very welcome in this space.
