But what is the role?

I’m in London today, talking about ‘Change’. And how to lead it.

We easily forget that the easiest type of change is failure: you can do literally nothing and still fail with relative ease.

When Organisations talk about change, they usually mean a narrow subset of all possible outcomes, and preferably one that they like.

Use your sixty seconds today to ask yourself, “what is the role of a leader in change?”

It’s quite a difficult questions, when you get right down to it.

Is your role to ‘drive’ change, or ‘support’ it, or ‘facilitate’ it, or to ‘cause’ it, or ‘prevent’ it? Who are you most responsible for through change? Yourself, your team, your friends, your leaders? And who are you most responsible TO?

There’s no correct answer to this, nor any simple ones, but you will hear people give you confident views. It’s always worth taking a few minutes to question if they are correct.
